How Gates of Olympus 1000 works

Gates of Olympus 1000 keeps the 6x5 grid of the original. Symbols pay anywhere on the screen: match at least eight crowns, goblets or gems and the group wins. Winning symbols are removed and replaced by new ones falling from the top, and the tumbles continue until no new win forms. Zeus is still beside the reels. Everything that made the first game work is here unchanged, and the sequel exists for one number: the top multiplier.

Multipliers up to 1,000x

Multiplier symbols can appear on all reels, during spins and during tumbles. Each one takes a random value from 2x to 1,000x. At the end of a tumble sequence the values are combined and applied to the win. The 1,000x top value is the change from the first game, where the ceiling was 500x. The orbs are still only useful when they land on a winning sequence, so the game's streaky character is the same as before.

The free spins round

Four or more scatters in the base game start the bonus round with 15 free games. Whenever a multiplier symbol hits during the round, its value is added to the round's total multiplier, which is then applied to any win. Multipliers build up through the round instead of resetting after each spin. Landing three or more scatters during the bonus adds five more free games, so a round can run well past its starting length.

Buying the bonus

Pragmatic Play's page states that the free spins round can be bought from the base game for 100x the bet, where the casino and the jurisdiction allow it. The demo lets you try the round that way with play money. It is the fastest way to see how different two rounds can be: one with no multipliers at all and one where a single 1,000x orb lands on a winning tumble.

What to watch in the demo

Play it next to the original Gates of Olympus. The higher top multiplier is the headline, and the demo lets you judge whether the game feels any different from spin to spin. In practice the two feel the same until a large orb lands. Watch the running total in a bonus round and note how often it moves; most of the value is in the rare large values rather than in frequent small ones.

Who the game suits

This is for players who already like the Gates of Olympus system and want a higher ceiling. It is not a gentler game, and the base game is as quiet as the original's. If you have never played the series, start with the original demo; the sequel will make more sense once you know what the orbs do.

Original or 1000

Both games give 15 free spins from four scatters, both pay anywhere for eight or more symbols, both let orbs land on any spin. The sequel adds the 1,000x value and the five extra spins for three scatters inside the bonus. That is the whole difference. Pick by which top-end you want to chase, since the day-to-day play is the same.

Verdict

Gates of Olympus 1000 is the original with a higher ceiling and nothing else changed, which is exactly what its audience asked for. The base game is still a long wait and the bonus still decides everything. If the 500x cap of the first game ever felt limiting, this is the version for you; if not, the original plays the same.
